Isabella Norris and Family

This is the stone of baby Isabella Norris, who died August 11, 1857 at only 12 days old.

The stone of baby Isabella Norris, infant daughter of Matthew C. and Mary L. Norris.

This stone sits at the very edge of the Old Clifton Cemetery, Colchester County… so far to the edge that it’s often hidden by overgrowth. I cleared a bit for this photo.

Isabella was born to Captain Matthew C. and Mary Leonora (Johnson) Norris, of Princeport, Colchester County on or around July 31, 1857.

Both Matthew and Mary are also interred at the Old Clifton Cemetery a few plots away.

Some brief research into baby Isabella’s family tree suggests that she had 8 siblings, but I haven’t seen their stones in the area yet and haven’t located any records of their births or deaths.

Matthew and Mary were married in Boston, in 1854 according to a marriage record I was able to find in the Massachusetts archives, but I’ve also seen suggestions that Matthew was born in Princeport, Nova Scotia. Hoping to fill in some more blanks with this family over time, in particular the journey either to or from Boston to Princeport and Matthew’s time as a sea captain.

The stone of Mary Leonora (Johnson) Norris, mother of Isabella Norris and wife of Captain Matthew C. Norris.
